More interest rate pain: RBA’s sobering inflation warning to households

Australians should brace for several years of high inflation and expect their mortgage costs to rise sharply as central banks try to curb rapidly growing prices, Reserve Bank governor Philip Lowe has warned.

In a wide-ranging speech on Tuesday, Dr Lowe said the RBA will do whatever it takes to get inflation back under control, amid growing fears the central bank could trigger a recession in the process.
