Monkeypox can leave significant scarring on the body but will not become the next pandemic, experts claim.
Since the first UK case was reported back in May, monkepox has shown no signs of slowing down. As of July 25, Public Health Scotland (PHS) has reported 59 laboratory-confirmed cases of the virus
While monkepox can affect people of any gender and sexuality, PHS reports that most Scottish cases have occurred in men who are gay, bisexual or have sex with men.
