Money Saving Expert issues urgent warning to Asda and Lidl shoppers

Popular supermarkets Lidl and Asda are warning customers that they have just days left to secure some money-off vouchers to slash their grocery spending.

The Money Saving Expert website, founded by Martin Lewis, has told shoppers that the retailers are offering vouchers for £5 off their shopping, reports the Liverpool Echo. However, these offers are only valid for a limited time until February 28, according to the latest MSE newsletter.

Lidl are currently offering one million £5 vouchers via their money-saving app, which need to be spent by Tuesday, February 28. New Asda Rewards app members are being offered a £5 off voucher to spend on almost anything online or in-store. These vouchers are valid until the same date, February 28.

Asda

How to claim the £5 off voucher

According to the MSE newsletter, new Asda Rewards app members can get a £5 voucher in their 'Cashpot' after they complete their first online or in-store purchase.

This voucher can then be redeemed on your next shop. Once the voucher is claimed, it can be used at any time over the next six months - meaning you have until Tuesday to claim it alone.

Asda told the experts at the MSE website that there is no minimum spend required to get the reward, so you could buy a cheap item like a packet of chewing gum - and still get £5 in your Cashpot.

How the Asda Rewards app works

The Asda app works differently to other supermarket applications, where you build up pounds in your Cashpot - rather than points.

These Cashpot pounds can then be converted into vouchers to spend - which you can do within the app. The lowest voucher starts at £1, and the maximum is £100 in a single voucher.

These vouchers can be used in any way, with zero minimum spend. When using the vouchers in-store, you simply scan the voucher in the app as you go through the checkout.

When it comes to spending the voucher online, you must register on the Asda Rewards app using the same email address you use to sign in to Asda's online shop. Vouchers automatically apply to your online shop. If you have more than one voucher in your account, the oldest dated voucher will be used first.

When placing an order, the value of that voucher will automatically be applied to your shop, if the total cost of eligible items within your shop is greater than the value of the voucher.

After this, your voucher will be 'locked' so you can't use it on a separate shop. Once the order has been delivered or collected these vouchers will be taken off your shopping amount and removed from your ASDA Rewards app.

You can't use vouchers on kiosk items, petrol, pharmacy, third-party or ASDA gift cards and infant formula.

Lidl

How to claim the £5 off voucher

All you have to do is register on the Lidl Plus app, then press the More tab at the bottom of the screen. The top item should say Redeem Code, click that and enter the code FEELGOOD. The voucher will be displayed shortly afterwards in the 'Coupons' section of the app.

To activate the voucher, you can scan it at the till, with screenshots, pictures or printouts of the voucher not being accepted as valid. It can be used against almost everything in store, but does exclude alcohol, infant formula and gift cards.

The qualifying spend must be at least £25 after any other discounts added, so when using Lidl Plus coupons, you have to factor this in. This is limited to one coupon per Lidl Plus account.

There are one million vouchers available, and you'll have until February 28 to both claim and spend the voucher, which must be done in a single transaction.
