Money changer murdered in Ludhiana, two arrested; Rs 35 Lakh robbed cash recovered

LUDHIANA: Manjit Singh, a 63-year-old money changer, was killed by a couple who ran a valet parking business and their employee for easy money.

Police have arrested the woman and her employee, while the main accused, who plotted the murder, is on the run. Police have recovered Rs 34.35 lakh cash and the stolen scooter used in the crime, two cars, out of which one was used in the crime and an ice-pick from their possession.

The arrested accused has been identified as Kuldeep Kaur of Sidhwan Bet, her employee Mandeep Singh of the same area and the absconding accused is Jobanjeet Singh of Gurdaspur.

Ludhiana police commissioner Mandeep Singh Sidhu said, "Police have solved the brutal murder case of money changer Manjit Singh, who was stabbed by two masked assailants with an ice-pick at Model Gram and robbed him of his bag of cash. Jobanjit hatched the conspiracy to rob Manjeet Singh. He had heard that Manjit deals in large amounts of cash. Jobanjit hatched the conspiracy with his wife Kuldeep, who also involved their employee Mandeep, as at least two persons were needed to execute the robbery."

The police commissioner added that Jobanjit conducted reconnaissance for about two months before executing the plan, for which he started living in a hotel near the city from February 16. He also visited Manjit’s money changing shop a few times ostensibly to inquire about American dollars and Australian dollars.

"The accused followed Manjit for many days from his shop to residence before targeting him. When the plan was executed, Kuldeep was also with Mandeep and Jobanjit in her car. After attacking and robbing Manjit, the duo escaped on a scooter. At some distance, Jobanjit gave some of the cash to Mandeep and Kuldeep and took some cash along. The exact amount of the cash has not been ascertained yet. Police are trying to trace him," he said.
