Temperatures are set to soar across the UK on Monday as parts of the UK get placed under the Met Office's first ever red weather warning for extreme heat. Greater Manchester is expected to see sweltering highs of 34C as the week begins.
If the forecast proves to be accurate, Manchester will be set to see its hottest ever day on Monday. The highest temperature ever recorded in Manchester was 33.7C, which was reached during the summer heatwave of 1976. The summer of 1990 saw highs of 32.1C, while temperatures in the region hit 33.1C in 2003.
The Met Office's red weather warning is in place between midnight on Sunday and 11.59pm on Tuesday and covers a large part of England from London up to Manchester. Forecaster are warning that the high temperatures pose a danger to life and are urging Brits to keep out of the sun during the hottest parts of the day.

Widespread travel disruption is expected due to the extreme temperatures with many train operators urging people not to travel unless absolutely necessary. Hospitals are also gearing up for a high intake of patients due to the heat, while Greater Manchester Police has urged people to avoid cooling off in reservoirs, rivers or ponds after a teenage boy died while swimming with friends in Salford Quays.
Elsewhere in the UK, temperatures on Monday are expected to hit 37C in Peterborough and 36C in Milton Keynes, Norwich and Lincoln. Tuesday is predicted to be even hotter with forecasters warning that 40C could be topped in London.
Here's Monday's hour-by-hour forecast for every borough of Greater Manchester, according to the Met Office.
