Andy Goram's ex-wife leads coffin into Glasgow church as Rangers stars gather for funeral
The ex-wife of Rangers legend Andy Goram led his coffin into a church in Glasgow where mourners gathered to say their goodbyes. Miriam Wylie was outside the Wellington Church in Hillhead this afternoon as the 58-year-old's funeral procession arrived. She was pictured standing on the steps of the venue talking with Ibrox legend Ally McCoist.
Goram’s coffin was carried by ex team mates Ally Mccoist, John Brown and Alan Rough. His son Danny was also a pall bearer with ex- wife Miriam Wylie and pals Stan Gordon and Baz Gilmour. Attendees arrived to the sound of a lone piper, who struck up around 45 minutes before the service was due to begin at 2pm.
Scottish footballing icons, famous faces and fans were among those to attend the funeral, which took place after a procession made its way passed The Stonefield Tavern in Blantyre - Goram's favourite pub, and crowds gathered outside Ibrox. Red, white and blue flower arrangements were also placed at the front of the church with people beginning to arrive around 90 minutes before the service started.
Many went straight indoors to escape the scorching temperatures, with staff from the Ibrox club offering an order of service and water to those attending. Among those to arrive early were former players Willie Henderson, Derek Ferguson, John Bomber Brown and Gordon Smith.
US tourist charged with killing Scots toddler and his grandparents in horror A9 crash
A North Carolina man has been charged with driving dangerously and causing the death of an Inverness couple and their two-year-old grandson in a crash on the A9 in the Highlands. Paul Gillcrist is also accused of causing his 65-year-old wife, Kathy, serious injury while behind the wheel on July 5.
In addition, Gillcrist, 66, is facing a second dangerous driving charge, alleged to have occurred elsewhere on the A9 between Carrbridge and Dalwhinnie. The tourist was not present when the case called at Inverness Sheriff Court, as he and his wife are still hospitalised.
Gillcrist was driving a Mercedes at the time and there was an alleged collision with a Ford Fiesta near near Slochd Summit.
Scots drag queen punched by supermarket worker during row over face mask
A supermarket worker has been ordered to pay compensation to a drag queen he attacked during a night out. Darren Davidson threw a drink at Liam Clarke - who performs as 'Saturn' - before punching him in the head in a row over wearing a mask.
Mr Clarke had spent the evening taking part in a virtual show at Dundee University students' union, alongside RuPaul's Drag Race contestant Ellie Diamond. Dundee Sheriff Court was told that Davidson, 49, had become angry when he was asked to wear a mask during the coronavirus pandemic in May 2021.
Mr Clarke was among a group of people outside the Kandy Bar - formerly Klozet - in Dundee, when Davidson threw a drink over him and then punched him.
Drugs crook jailed over massive cannabis crop grown next door to Lanarkshire cop shop
Police swooped on a cannabis farm. after smelling the fumes from their police station next door. Officers seized 118 plants, worth more than £70,000, from the warehouse next to the station in Wishaw.
We told you previously how Paul McCann was caught red-handed with the keys and fainted when detained by the police. The dad-of-two was jailed after he admitted producing cannabis and being concerned in the supply of the drug.
Prosecutor Abby Seal said the 41-year-old was seen putting tools in a Ford Transit van outside the building on June 18, 2020. She told Hamilton Sheriff Court: “Police officers detected a strong smell of cannabis and detained him. As they walked towards the premises, the accused became extremely nervous and fainted."
Cops in Lanarkshire launch murder investigation after 24-year-old man found dead
Police in Lanark have launched a murder investigation after a man's body was found following a disturbance.
And officers have moved to name the victim as 24-year-old, Peter Kirkwood.
Officers say he was "seriously assaulted" on the town's Mousebank Road at around 1.55am on Saturday (July 16).
Emergency services raced to the scene, but were unable to save Peter.
Police initially arrested a 22-year-old in connection with the incident, but he has since been released pending further enquiries.
