Mona Sharif: 'My scream club isn’t just about catharsis – it’s political’

Mona Sharif has taken screaming into the void to new heights - (Mona Sharif)

Mona Sharif is sitting in a fleece in her kitchen in Chiswick, clutching a cup of tea. The Surrey-born politics graduate, 26, is recovering from a nasty dose of strep-throat – which is hardly surprising, given half of the last month has been spent screaming at the top of her lungs with hundreds of members of her newly-founded Scream Squad London across various of the capital’s parks.

If you haven’t seen clips of Sharif’s unlikely new “wellness” club on social media yet, you might have heard it if you happen to have been passing through Primrose Hill, Battersea or Hyde Park over recent weeks as crowds of angry Gen-Zers gathered to scream about their love lives, the climate crisis and the carefree years they lost to Covid.
