Moment local man threatens downed F-15 pilot with metal pole in Kuwait: 'Back up, I'm American'

Incredible footage has emerged of an American pilot being threatened by a local man with a pipe after parachuting out of an F-15 jet shot down over Kuwait.

The pilot was in one of three US jets that were mistakenly shot out of the sky on Monday.

Video shared on social media shows the pilot being approached by a group of men. One of them is brandishing a metal pole.

“Back up. Stop!,” the pilot says repeatedly as the men, perhaps fearing him to be Iranian, approach nervously.

The tense situation calms down after the pilot tells them he is American and the group retreat.

Kuwait's air defences mistakenly shot down three U.S. F-15 fighter jets during active combat on Monday, U.S. Central Command said on Monday, describing it as an apparent friendly-fire incident amid the war with Iran.

All six crew members ejected from the aircraft safely, were recovered and are in stable condition, CENTCOM said.

The incident is the first downing of US aircraft since the US-Israeli war against Iran began on Saturday and underscores how rapidly the conflict is widening across the Gulf.

Video images showed a US warplane falling out of the sky over Kuwait early on Monday, while a person could be seen parachuting.

The location was verified by Reuters as filmed in the Al Jahra area of Kuwait.
