A kayaker received a huge fright while out fishing in California when he noticed a "massive" great white shark swimming underneath his tiny boat.
A man who goes by the social media name of Fisherman's Chronicles caught the unsettling moment on video before posting it on his YouTube and Instagram pages.
In the footage taken along the state's Central Coast area the world's most dangerous shark is seen continually circling the kayak before heading off "peacefully" into the murky waters.
The brave fisherman remained where he was to calmly film the incredible encounter on multiple devices, above and below the surface, that he said lasted for a couple of minutes.
He described it as "one of the most incredible and certainly humbling experiences in my time fishing ".
While the camera follows the impressive beast around the kayak the fisherman is heard exclaiming "oh my God!" and when asked by someone he appeared to communicating with how big it was, he said: "Freaking massive!"
On his Instagram post he asked his followers: "What would you do?"
Many users were impressed that he did not paddle away in fear and commended his "crazy courage to stay put and gopro that".
One person commented: "There’s no way the inside of my kayak would have stayed dry!!" to which the fisherman replied: "Can't say I didn't almost pee myself".
Great white sharks are not shy when it comes to hanging out close to people.
Earlier this year tourists on a boat in the Eyre Peninsula in South Australia were treated to an unexpected display by a three-metre great white.
The enormous fish leapt out of the water just behind the vessel and tour guide Andrew Wright said everyone was "clearly impressed" by the animal's gymnastics.
He added: "Seeing them jump out of the water like that, particularly at close range, is certainly not a normal occurrence."
Footage also re-emerged online of a prank that almost went wrong when an Australian man narrowly avoided being bitten by an other fearsome shark, the tiger shark, in Queensland.
Shaun Harrington was in the sea on a "B-grade shark-fishing tour" with his twin brother and just a birdcage when the predator suddenly darted towards him before he leapt to the safety of his boat.
