Disturbing video footage released by the police shows evil Andrew Burfield guiding investigators to the woodland area where he buried his ex girlfriend after brutally murdering her with an axe. The 51-year-old killer, from Burnley, has received a life sentence with a minimum term of 32 years for the murder of Katie Kenyon.
Mum-of-two Katie was last seen on April 22 getting into a van in Padiham after she had sent worried family members obscure text messages which told them she had "gone away to work on herself". After a massive police search, the 33 year old's body was found a week later on April 29 inside a shallow grave in the Forest of Bowland, the Daily Star reports.
Burfield, who was later arrested on suspicion of murder, told police that he had taken Katie out to the woods for a picnic together. During that time, he lied that she had dared him to hit a can of Coca-Cola out of her hand with an axe he was using to chop wood and that he had thrown the axe at a tree but it bounced off it and fatally struck Katie in the back of the head.
However, a post mortem examination later confirmed that Katie had been viciously hit 12 times to the head. Chilling bodycam footage disclosed by Lancashire Police shows cuffed Burfield leading the police to the area within the police tape.
He paused by a white mat and informed the officers: "This is where we picnicked." He then walked further to another specific spot and kneeled to the ground, explaining the exact location of where Katie was buried.
Burfield pleaded guilty to the murder of Katie Kenyon yesterday at Preston Crown Court on the third day of the trial. Detective Chief Inspector Allen Davies, of the Force Major Investigation Team, said: “My thoughts remain with Katie’s family at this truly distressing time and I hope today’s sentencing will finally give them some sense of closure and allow them to finally grieve the mother, daughter and sister who was taken from them in the most barbaric circumstances.
"Andrew Burfield is a cruel, vindictive man who elected to run a trial despite the overwhelming evidence in this case. No sentence will ever make up for leaving children without their mother and family and friends facing the most unimaginable grief, but I welcome the life sentence handed down to Burfield.
"I hope Katie’s family can take some solace in knowing this dangerous monster is now behind bars for a significant period of time."
