This is the shocking moment a cyclist is sent tumbling off his bike in a “despicable” attack by a passenger hanging out of an overtaking van.
The victim suffered facial injuries, bruising to his arms and legs and a swollen knee after being taken out on his pre-dawn cycle to work along Nottingham Road, Totan.
Nottinghamshire Police have released footage of the attacker hanging out with his arms outstretched from a silver Peugeot ready to push the victim.
Detectives said the handlebars, brake levers, and rear axle of his bike were also damaged in the attack.
Investigators have traced the van driver and registered keeper of the vehicle and on Thursday released the camera footage of the attack at 4am on March 9.
PC Jon Lingard, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This was a nasty unprovoked assault on a man cycling to work. It’s fortunate that he didn’t sustain more serious injuries following this despicable random attack.
“We are now in a position to release this footage as part of our investigation and would ask that anyone who recognises the man pictured to get in touch. We’d also ask that he contacts us if he sees this appeal.”
According to the Gov.uk, in 2023, 55 per cent of road casualties were car occupants, 15 per cent were pedestrians, 13 per cent were motorcyclists and 11 per cent were pedal cyclists.
Anyone who recognises the man or who has any information should call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 137 of 9 March 2024 , or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
