An alarm was sounded in Terminal 2 of Manchester Airport this afternoon after an emergency box was 'accidentally smashed'.
Video footage taken inside the terminal showed the building packed with passengers as the alarm went off. One passenger took a photo of two firefighters on the upper level of the terminal.
Another passenger said that bars and restaurants inside the terminal were evacuated. He added that passengers 'had no idea what was going on' and 'milled around' as they waited for an announcement.

A spokesperson for the airport said that someone had accidentally hit a red, glass emergency box so 'people were moved out of the small immediate area'. The area has now been 'reopened' and it has 'returned to normal' inside the building, the spokesperson added.
