Moment 10ft alligator lunges at woman before dragging her into lake and killing her

A 10ft alligator attacked and killed an elderly woman in a shocking incident in the United States earlier this week.

The sickening moment was caught on camera, whereby an alligator came out of a lake and suddenly dragged a woman, who was out walking her dog, into the water in Florida on Monday, The Mirror reported.

A neighbour can be heard calling the emergency services in the footage, but it was too late.

Gloria Serge, 85, died after being viciously attacked by the 10ft gator while trying to help her dog, authorities said.

She was dragged into the lake while trying to get the alligator's jaws away from her pet.

A frightened neighbour said: "There's a woman in the lake. The alligator's got her!"

She added that it was horrible for the family, and that everyone was devastated at what had unfolded.

Gloria's body was later recovered from the lake where the attack occurred.

Wildlife experts worked to take the gator responsible from the body of water.

Florida has a population of 1.3 million alligators, located in all freshwater bodies and sometimes in salt water.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) said: "Serious injuries caused by alligators are rare in Florida.

"The FWC places the highest priority on public safety and administers a Statewide Nuisance Alligator Program (SNAP) to address complaints concerning specific alligators believed to pose a threat to people, pets, or property."
