Mohamed Salah Liverpool theory emerges as Moises Caicedo sends Brighton transfer message

Your morning Liverpool digest on Saturday, January 28.

Jurgen Klopp has a simple answer to why Mohamed Salah and Liverpool are 'suffering'

Jurgen Klopp believes Liverpool's struggles in front of goal this season stem from an inability to get his key players on the pitch together for long enough.

And the Reds boss admits it may take some time yet before something of a new-look attacking department is firing on all cylinders as injuries continue to rule out Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino.

Mohamed Salah leads the club's scoring charts with 17 but Darwin Nunez is the only other forward into double figures across all competitions with the Uruguay international on 10 in his maiden season at Anfield.

Diaz and Jota have both been injured since October and the former is not expected back until March having undergone surgery last month following a setback in his recovery from a knee injury. Firmino is another influential figure who has been sidelined of late, having missed the last eight games with a calf injury initially picked up in training before the 3-2 loss to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup on December 22.

Jota's own calf problem is at least subsiding, with the Portugal international expected back in the next few weeks, but he is without a goal since April last year, while Cody Gakpo is yet to find the net following his move from PSV Eindhoven at the start of the month.

Jota, Diaz and Firmino will all be absent from Sunday's visit to Brighton in the FA Cup and Klopp accepts the unsettled nature of his frontline has been the reason behind a lack of genuine threat in the final third. Diaz, Nunez and Salah have teamed up for just 343 minutes together across the entire campaign to date and the Liverpool manager admits the latter is struggling for rhythm as a result.

Moises Caicedo makes Instagram transfer claim ahead of Liverpool clash

Liverpool's hopes of making a move for Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo appear to have been dashed after the player published a farewell message to Brighton fans via social media on Friday evening.

But his intended destination appears to be Arsenal, after the Gunners had a £60million offer for the Ecuadorian rejected on Friday afternoon - an amount Liverpool reportedly have no interest in matching in the current window.

Sharing a statement on both his Instagram and Twitter pages, Caicedo said: "I am grateful to Mr. Bloom and Brighton for giving me the chance to come to the Premier League and I feel I have always done my best for them. I always play football with a smile and with heart. I am the youngest of 10 siblings from a poor upbringing in Santa Domingo in Ecuador.

"My dream always to be the most decorated player in the history of Ecuador. I am proud to be able to bring in a record transfer fee for Brighton which would allow them to reinvest it and help the club continue to be successful."
