A missing moggy has finally been reunited with his owner after travelling 100 miles under the bonnet of a truck.
Four-year-old Pixie first went missing from his home in Selkirk in the Scottish Borders on January 11 - and turned up two weeks later to the astonishment of workers at Hardie Recovery in Polbeth hiding in the engine bay of one of their vehicles.
Employee Liam Snedden had been doing checks on the truck when he discovered the intrepid cat curled up near the engine.
And through the power of social media Pixie was returned to his delighted owner Katie Prentice - with all his nine lives in tact.
William Hardie, who owns the business, said he was just pleased to reunite the adventurous feline with his owner.
He said: “The wee cat had been missing for two weeks when one of the drivers doing daily checks on truck found the wee cat in the engine bay
“We turned to the power of Facebook and managed to get it scanned and reunited with its owners in Selkirk. We estimate the wee cat has done over 100 miles in the engine bay.
“I’m also a cat owner so wanted to make sure the wee thing got home safe.”
William said he had been shocked Pixie had survived the journey and posted the discovery details on Facebook to try and track down his owner.
Thankfully Andrea Power, of Broxburn pet services company Andrea’s Animals, saw the post and Pixie’s microchip was scanned and his relieved owner contacted.
Andrea said: “Goodness knows how he survived, he must have been holding on for dear life.
“Hats off to the guys at Hardies, a lot of people would have found the cat and just chucked him out and might never have been found.
“I was tagged in a post on Facebook after they had said they had found the cat because I had a scanner and I was delighted when I saw it’s owner’s details and was able to reunite them.
“So many times lost animals either aren’t microchipped or the contact information is out-of-date. It’s lovely to have a happy ending.”
