Moffat Mountain Rescue Team went to the aid of an injured hillwalker in “challenging conditions” on Saturday evening.
A call to the Scottish Ambulance Service was made to the volunteer unit at 4.55pm to help a woman who got into difficulties on Tinto Hill near Biggar.
The rescue crew was carrying out first aid training at the Moffat base at the time of the call and sent eight team members to scene.
A farmer with a quad bike helped the team with their ascent. Paramedics were on scene before HM Coastguard sent a rescue helicopter to land close to the casualty.
A Moffat MRT statement said: “The conditions on the hill were challenging with strong winds and ice underfoot making the team’s ascent on foot significantly more difficult.
“Six members of the team proceeded to the casualty location with further team members ascending the hill with additional equipment in the event the casualty needed to be carried from the hill.
“Members of the team assessed the casualty, who had already had injury management carried out by paramedics and pain relief administered, in preparation for moving off the snow covered hill.”
They sheltered the woman from the elements to prevent hypothermia and safely placed her in a warm casualty bag and stretcher.
The volunteers were in action the previous weekend when they went to the rescue of an injured hillwalker on the Grey Mare’s Tail near Moffat.
