Moffat councillor hoping to see pothole repair action soon

A Moffat councillor is hoping to see action to repair potholes in the town soon.

New Annandale North ward representative Lynne Davis was inundated with complaints about the state of the roads during her election campaign.

And she has praised a community effort to get the council to tackle the problem.

Councillor Davis told the Standard she has been assured by council officials that work should be getting under way imminently on the bumpiest of local roads.

She said: “I’m delighted something is being done as potholes are not just an irritation, they are a danger to road-users and can lead to hefty garage bills to repair damage. That’s something no-one wants, particularly during the current cost-of-living crisis.”

The council’s roads recovery fund team has recently tackled similar problems in the Langholm area and other parts of Eskdale.

And they are expected to be targeting Upper Annandale next.

Councillor Davis said: “It’s been a real team effort in Moffat. The community council have got the project off to a flying start by recording locations and photographing no fewer than 90 potholes in and around the town.

“In addition, the roads team are planning to do an inspection on foot of all the public roads.

“My hope would be that, once this work is done, that the situation will be monitored at local level and that there will be sufficient resources put in place to try to keep on top the problem in the longer term.

“I will continue to highlight the wishes of local people for a long-term responsive roads maintenance improvement agenda to both officials and councillors on the Labour/SNP-led administration.”
