Modi Voices ‘Grave Concern’ Over West Asia Crisis After US–Israel Strikes on Iran

Speaking during a joint statement with his Canadian counterpart, Mark Carney, Modi described the developments in the Middle East as a matter of “grave concern” for India. The remarks came after high-level talks between the two leaders, where regional security and global stability featured prominently in discussions.

“The situation in West Asia is a matter of grave concern for us,” Modi said, underlining the seriousness with which India is monitoring the crisis. He reiterated that New Delhi remains committed to safeguarding its nationals in the conflict-affected region. “We will keep working with countries in West Asia to ensure the safety of Indians there,” he added.

The joint remarks followed coordinated military action by the United States and Israel targeting multiple locations in Iran, including areas described as the “heart of Tehran.” The strikes reportedly eliminated several senior leaders of the Iranian regime and marked a dramatic turning point in Iran’s political landscape, bringing an end to Khamenei’s decades-long rule.

Addressing the broader implications of the conflict, Modi emphasized India’s longstanding position on international disputes. “India supports resolution of all conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy,” he said, advocating restraint and peaceful engagement amid escalating tensions.

Both leaders also underscored that terrorism and radicalisation remain “shared and serious challenges” not only for India and Canada but for the global community. They reaffirmed their commitment to working together to counter extremist threats and promote international security.

The developments in West Asia have triggered widespread geopolitical ripples, with several nations closely monitoring the fallout from the strikes. As tensions continue to escalate, India has stepped up its diplomatic engagement with regional partners to ensure the safety of its citizens and to contribute to efforts aimed at de-escalation.
