Modi rival accuses India’s leader of political conspiracy after corruption charge

  • Delhi's former chief minister, Arvind Kejriwal, and his deputy, Manish Sisodia, were discharged in a corruption case linked to a now-scrapped liquor sales policy.
  • A Delhi court cleared Mr Kejriwal, Mr Sisodia, and 21 other individuals, citing a lack of evidence and labelling the case as 'premeditated and choreographed'.
  • Special judge Jitendra Singh heavily criticised federal agencies, particularly the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), for attempting to construct a conspiracy narrative based on conjecture.
  • Mr Kejriwal, a prominent rival of prime minister Narendra Modi, became emotional outside court, asserting his honesty and accusing Mr Modi's party of a political conspiracy.
  • The judge ordered departmental action against the CBI officer involved, while the CBI announced its intention to appeal the ruling in the Delhi High Court.
