Call of Duty is smashing records again, as Activision announced Monday that Modern Warfare 2 has generated more than $1 billion within its first 10 days on the market.
“Our developers, along with our entire Activision Blizzard team, are the backbone of our unwavering commitment to serve our hundreds of millions of players around the world,” Bobby Kotick, CEO of Activision Blizzard, said in a press release. “I am so proud of the extraordinary efforts from our Call of Duty teams and the records they have achieved with Modern Warfare 2. Connecting the world through joy, fun, and the thrill of competition is the key to our success.”
previously, Black Ops 2 held the franchise record — surpassing the $1 billion mark in 15 days. So Modern Warfare 2 eclipsed that feat with several days to spare.
According to Activision, people have already played over 200 million hours of Modern Warfare 2‘s multiplayer. That is about a billion matches across PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Success in spite of all those accidental bans, no less!
