ORLANDO, Fla. — Walt Disney World is introducing a new way to enter its theme parks: using iPhones.
The option, dubbed Disney MagicMobile service, will operate through the company’s My Disney Experience app and the device’s digital wallet. Features will be available by holding the phone up to the round touchpoint atop posts at the entrance gate just as visitors do with MagicBands or physical annual-pass cards, Disney says.
MagicBands, introduced in 2013, are not going away. A post on the official Disney Parks Blog indicates more designs of the bracelet-style device are going to be introduced soon and that users will be able to alternate between the bands and MagicMobile if desired.
Disney MagicMobile will be coming out in phases later this year, Disney says, starting with Apple devices, including Apple Watch.
The digital room key feature still will work with the My Disney Experience app, allowing resort guests to check-in without stopping at the lobby desk and unlock their rooms using phones, Disney says.
