Moaning Robbie Neilson and Hearts get away with ref blasts and imagine if it were Neil Lennon – Hotline

Hearts fans were left fuming at referee Don Robertson as they hammered onto the Hotline.

Tuesday’s Edinburgh Derby finished up scoreless, but the Jambos are not happy at being denied a couple of penalties for incidents involving Hibs defender Lewis Stevenson.

Robbie Neilson was also booked on the night as fumed about the calls of the officials and Davy Coo, Restalrig, was first on to take issue.

He said: “Two stonewall penalties and a keeper who should have walked for denying Hearts a goal and they say there is no referee vendetta against Hearts. Somebody is having a laugh and it’s not Robbie Neilson. Unhappy.”

John Rice, Queensferry, added: “ Hearts were robbed. How the barge on Ellis Simms is not a penalty I’ll never know and the handball from Stevenson was right in front of the ref’s eyes.”

John Caw emailed to say: “Once again Don Robertson showed how not to referee. Last week at Alloa and now at Easter Road. Absolute shocker of how not to do it. Is he taking lessons from Kevin Clancy?”

However, John Scott, Grassmoor, gave the counter and said: “There’s no denying Hearts should have had a penalty for the first incident involving Lewis Stevenson, but the second? Will someone explain where a player is meant to put his hands while charging down a free kick, especially at the speed the ball was travelling?

“Was it any worse than the blatant handball denied for Hibs against Rangers, when a smiling Kris Boyd replied 'no comment' when asked if it was a penalty? Surely it's now a bit late to come over all sanctimonious about VAR, Kris.

“Hearts will feel hard done by no doubt, but battling Hibs deserved their point. The times I’ve seen Hibs cheated out of three points against Hearts I could write a book about. Leigh Griffiths denied a goal from a free kick a yard over the line for starters.”

Harry Fitzpatrick got in touch from Ontario in Canada to say: “Has the compliance officer retired? It’s every week now we hear Robbie Neilson complaining about decisions, can you imagine if it was Neil Lennon doing this?”

Neil Renton, Edinburgh, added: “Robbie Neilson has a nerve complaining about the ref's performance against Hibs who had a perfectly acceptable goal wrongly chopped off. Neilson should be more concerned about his players bottling it on the big occasion than the officials.”

Aberdeen took a point from their midweek game against Ross Country, but a new signing didn’t impress Andrew Lamb in Fraserburgh .

He said: “It’s early doors, but new Aberdeen ‘wonderkid’ Vicente Besuijen hardly looks as though he’s enough to get the sweetie papers rustling at Pittodrie. Hope I’m wrong, but the Dons just cannot score.”

Aaron Ramsey’s transfer to Rangers was still discussed even though his new team were facing Celtic in the top-of-the-table clash.

Kenny Wilson, Moffat, said: “So Rangers have a new signing who’s going to dominate Scottish football?

“I remember the hype about Joey Barton and remember how that turned out for them. I think he’s still in Scott Brown’s pocket. Getting a player on supposedly £400k a week for nothing tells its own story.”

Frank McFerran, Carrickfergus , added: “As a Rangers fan, I am as excited about this signing as anyone, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves. He has to do it on the park. Then we can sing his name.”
