In what really (and unfortunately) shouldn’t be news to anyone who follows Major League Baseball, notoriously bad umpire Ángel Hernández had another horrific performance behind home plate on Sunday, and he once again left MLB fans wondering how he’s able to keep his job.
Hernandez was calling balls and strikes in the series finale between the San Francisco Giants and Atlanta Braves, and let’s just say he had some struggles figuring out where the strike zone was for both teams.
These two calls below were egregiously bad. You have to love the announcer in the first one explaining how the pitch was “near the outside corner."
"As Fried fires a strike near the outside corner..." 🤣🔊

Brutal.
This pitch chart shows just how bad of a day Hernández had in Atlanta:

There's just no way Hernández should be allowed behind home plate the rest of the season.
Fans blasted him:
I know the answer is because of the umpire's union, but there's no reason to have him behind the plate ever when there are THREE other places he could be. Same goes for the other umps who are in the bottom 1/3 behind the dish

There a person in sports more universally despised than Angel Hernandez? Honestly can’t think of one. https://t.co/uMsADhVoIl
