MLB Postpones Two Games Due to Dangerous Air Quality on East Coast

Wednesday night’s White Sox-Yankees and Tigers-Phillies games have been postponed due to poor air quality. The announcements were made hours before their scheduled start times. Each game will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Thursday, in New York and Philadelphia, respectively.

The poor air quality stems from wildfires in Canada, which has spread smoke hundreds of miles away. The situation made for an eerie scene during Tuesday night’s White Sox-Yankees game, which was played as scheduled and resulted in a 3-2 win for Chicago.

The conditions also caused postponements in other New York City sporting events on Wednesday. The NWSL postponed the game between Gotham FC and the Orlando Pride, while the WNBA contest between the Liberty and Lynx also was postponed and will be rescheduled.
