MLB fans mocked the Dodgers after David Peralta’s silly celebration while trailing by 9 runs

Everything about the Diamondbacks’ Game 1 rout of the Dodgers in Saturday’s National League Division Series matchup was a shock. You had future Hall of Famer Clayton Kershaw getting pulled in the first inning after recording just one out and allowing six runs. And then the D-backs effectively shut down one of baseball’s most potent lineups on the road.

But amid that lopsided 11-2 win for Arizona, Dodgers outfielder David Peralta — a former D-backs player — broke out a celebration at the worst time.

With the D-backs already up nine runs in the second inning, Peralta hit a two-out double and performed the team’s customary celebration towards the bullpen and dugout. Now, the Dodgers always do this after hits, but there’s nothing sillier than waving your arms gleefully while getting embarrassed in a playoff game.

This isn’t an anti-celebration post either. Baseball needs more celebrations. But when you’re down nine runs in a home playoff game, there has to be a better way to fire up a dugout. It looked like the Peralta and the Dodgers weren’t taking the game seriously there, which only gave fuel for the D-backs to pile on.

You can’t blame fans for roasting the Dodgers over that celebration either.

This was how Twitter reacted

The Dodgers and D-backs have Game 2 on Monday night. So, we’ll see if the Dodgers can keep it within nine runs this time.
