MK Stalin does not know history of NEET, says O Panneerselvam

CHENNAI: AIADMK coordinator O Panneerselvam on Saturday said CM M K Stalin had no idea about the history of NEET. In a statement, OPS said the MCI — under the Union health ministry in which DMK MP S Gandhiselvan was a minister of state - issued notification for NEET in December 2010, during the Congress-led UPA regime. The DMK was very much part of that government, he said.

The MCI issued another notification in April 2012, stating that there would be a single NEET from 2013-14 academic year for all medical and dental admissions. “Who is responsible for introduction of NEET? There is strong evidence (against the Congress-DMK government),” he said and added nobody can deny it.

OPS asked Stalin as to why the DMK did not withdraw support to the UPA government till 2013 if it was opposed to introducing NEET. The Union government had even told the court in CMC Vellore vs the Union of India case in 2013 that NEET was introduced in the national interest, said OPS.

The AIADMK coordinator said the DMK, which lost power in the state in 2011, soon after the MCI notification in 2010, returned to power only after a decade and therefore, it was childish to ask as to when NEET was conducted in the state. The DMK was shedding crocodile tears after endorsing introduction of NEET, he said. “Did Stalin speak on NEET in 2010 or did he know anything about that?” He said the DMK had betrayed the people of Tamil Nadu and was blaming the AIADMK for their lapses.

Pointing to the court verdict of July 2013, Panneerselvam said that it was pertaining to the case filed by CMC, Vellore against the Union of India and there was no mention of the DMK in that order.

Raising doubts about the DMK’s claims of filing a case against NEET, the AIADMK leader said the DMK president should release the details of the case to the public as to where it was filed, the petition number and the arguments put forth by the party against NEET.
