Hawthorn coach Sam Mitchell has warned his side of the dangers of feeling too good about themselves ahead of an Anzac Day AFL showdown against Sydney.
The Hawks, who notched just seven victories in 2021, already have three wins after five rounds this season and are coming off a confidence-boosting 12-point upset over rivals Geelong.
Mitchell, who won four premierships in a glittering 329-game playing career, has purposely tempered the mood at training ahead of the clash with the Swans in Launceston.
"We saw some good things in the game last week. I did mention to the players, if you're feeling really good about your Easter Monday win - we kicked three goals before they had a possession," he said.
"So, basically, we lost the rest of the game.
"That was the way I put our feet back on the ground. Although we won the game and it was a great win ... if you go from the three minute mark to the rest of the game, they outscored us."
Hawthorn have produced a mixed bag in 2022 - a 64-point win over Port Adelaide in round two was followed by a one-point loss to Carlton and a 69-point thrashing at the hands of St Kilda.
"It's quite counter-intuitive as a coach. Every time we lose ... we're talking to the players 'this is about our journey'," Mitchell said.
"This is why we performed like that, this is why we're still in good shape.
"When we have a good win, it's the opposite. It's saying 'yes okay it was a good win ... but we've still got progress to make'.
"Quite a lot of coaching and playing at a high level week-to-week, is fighting off human nature."
Hawthorn have been forced to make several changes for Monday afternoon's fixture, their first trip to Tasmania this year.
Mitch Lewis (hamstring), Ned Reeves (shoulder), Changkuoth Jiath (hamstring), Tom Phillips (ankle) and Liam Shiels (managed) are all out.
Big man Max Lynch (concussion) is poised to make his second appearance this year, while Chad Wingard (calf) is also among the inclusions following a two-game absence.
Hawthorn will have to deal with a sizeable opposition addition, with Swans' legend Lance Franklin named to return from a broken finger.
Sydney are chasing three wins a row, following a 63-point thumping of West Coast on the road.
