Sen. Mitch McConnell's (R-Ky.) return to the US Senate remains uncertain even as lawmakers are back in Washington and Republicans prepare for another attempt to advance a stalled farm bill, with McConnell's return potentially changing the committee's voting arithmetic.
McConnell, 84, has been away from Capitol Hill since a 14 June fall that led to hospitalisation and later rehabilitation, and his office has still not announced a date for his return.
