A Missouri police officer and mother of six children tragically lost her life in a devastating incident that occurred during a high-speed pursuit. Officer Phylicia Carson, 33, of the Osage Beach Police Department, was on patrol in the early hours of Sunday when she encountered a speeding vehicle on westbound Highway 54.
Upon attempting to pull over the speeding vehicle, the driver chose to flee, prompting Officer Carson to initiate a pursuit. Unfortunately, during the chase, her patrol car veered off the road, collided with a tree, and caught fire, resulting in her untimely death.
The driver of the speeding vehicle, identified as 23-year-old Christopher Aaron Bishop Wehmeyer, was later apprehended and charged with aggravated fleeing, causing a death. He is currently being held without bond at the Camden County Jail.
Officer Carson, who leaves behind a husband and six children, had joined the Osage Beach Police Department in June 2023, starting her career in law enforcement. The tragic news has deeply impacted the community, with Missouri Governor Mike Parson and Lieutenant Governor Mike Kehoe expressing their condolences and emphasizing the bravery and sacrifice of law enforcement officers.
