Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey is currently being considered for the position of US attorney general by President-elect Donald Trump, according to two sources familiar with the matter.
In July, Bailey made a request to the US Supreme Court to postpone Trump's sentencing and remove the gag order in the New York hush money case. He argued that the gag order violated the rights of Missouri voters to hear from a presidential candidate. However, the court denied his request.
Other individuals under consideration for the position of US attorney general include Ken Paxton, the Texas attorney general; Matt Whitaker, who previously served in an acting capacity after Trump dismissed then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions; Republican Sen. Mike Lee of Utah; John Ratcliffe, the former director of national intelligence; and conservative attorney Mark Paoletta, who has been directly recommended to Trump by a source familiar with the matter.
