Missing teenager's body recovered from flooded Belubula River at Junction Reefs

The body of a teenager who went missing in a river in the Central West six days ago has been found.

An 18-year-old failed to resurface after jumping into the Belubula River at Junction Reefs, south-west of Bathurst, on Sunday.

Police say the teen got into trouble in the water.

Two other teenagers he was with attempted to help him, but he went under.

Police, along with NSW Ambulance and the State Emergency Service, launched a search operation from the air, on the ground, and in the water that ended yesterday evening when a body was located.

The river was in flood at the time the incident took place.

SES spokesperson David Rankin said the water was fast moving and shows floodwaters have much more power than people estimate.

"The power of water can very quickly take control of the situation, and even very strong and powerful swimmers can become trapped."

The SES has reminded people never to walk, ride or play in floodwater and to be alcohol safe, particularly as wet and stormy conditions are expected to stick around for some time.
