Missing man and dog found dead after 'falling 100ft' during walk in bad weather

Tributes are pouring in for a "lovely and kind" hillwalker who fell to his death while hiking with his pet dog.

Police believe Kyle Sambrook, 33, was carrying his beloved Beagle Bane when tragedy struck.

The pair had been wild camping in the Scottish Highlands and disappeared on February 18.

A desperate search was launched when they failed to return home to Featherstone, West Yorkshire, on Tuesday.

Kyle and Bane were last seen in the Lost Valley area of Glencoe in North West Scotland.

Their bodies were recovered by mountain rescue teams and the Coastguard on Saturday afternoon.

They were found in a gully about 2,625 ft up on the 3632 ft high Stob Coire nam Beith.

Brian Bathurst, deputy team leader of Glencoe Mountain Rescue Team, said it was possible the landscape gardener was carrying his dog when he fell almost 100ft in “appalling weather”.

Kyle was last seen in the Lost Valley area of Glencoe at about 12pm last Sunday (PA)

Police Scotland said there do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances.

Tributes for Mr Sambrook have flooded in on social media following the tragic discovery.

"I was really hoping for a different outcome. RIP two beautiful souls, together forever," one person wrote.

Another said: "RIP Kyle and Bane, I will miss our chats and your amazing gardening.

"Glad you were in your favourite place with your favourite little guy."

A third commented: "Rest in peace Kyle. Thank you for being amazingly you.

"Sending thoughts and love to you and your family. You'll forever be the best hiker ever known."

A fourth told how Scotland was "his passion" and thanked the search teams for their efforts.

Police Scotland confirmed that the bodies of a man and his dog found in Glencoe are those of Mr Sambrook and his dog Bane.

They were recovered by mountain rescue teams and HM Coastguard in Glencoe at around 2.15pm on Saturday.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said Mr Sambrook's family wished to thank all involved in the search and had requested their privacy be respected.

They added: "Our thoughts are with Kyle's family as we support them at this difficult time.”
