A senior Scots police officer has paid tribute to the brave family of a missing Ayrshire man as they mark the first birthday without him.
Jamie Cannon should have been surrounded by friends and loved ones as he turned 20-years-old but his whereabouts remain a mystery.
The young man, then 19, was last seen at Auchenharvie Golf Course, Stevenston, at around 10.40am on May 20 last year.
He had been spotted in Kerr Avenue, Saltcoats, a short time before but has since vanished without a trace.
Extensive searches have been carried out by police and volunteers in a bid to find Jamie as his family anxiously wait for answers.
Ayrshire Chief Superintendent Faroque Hussain is now calling on members of the public to think back to the day Jamie disappeared in case they saw him.
He tweeted: “Today is Jamie’s birthday and my thoughts very much remain with his family and friends.
“As a parent, I cannot imagine the anguish Jamie’s parents are going through.
“Please cast your mind back to 20 May - do you recall seeing anyone in Ayrshire fitting Jamie’s description?”
His heartbroken mum Lynn Cannon also issued a social media tribute for her son.
She wrote: “Happy 20th birthday son I miss and love you so much I just wish you would come home you should be here celebrating with your family xx.
“Liam and Aiden wish you a happy birthday and they miss you so much and want you home xx Love you Son xx.”
Jamie is described as being 6ft 1ins in height with short, dark hair.
When he was last seen he was wearing grey jogging bottoms, grey trainers, a blue jacket and was carrying a camouflage backpack.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting incident number 1623 of 22 May, 2021.
