Missing Croydon pensioner, 88, found dead in overturned car

A woman found dead in an overturned car in woodland had been reported missing two days earlier.

Eileen Johnston, 88, from Croydon was killed at the scene after her car ended up in woodland off a sliproad near Tonbridge.

Officers found her inside a silver Nissan Micra with a number plate starting LJ06 at 2am on November 8.

Her family have been informed.

As part of their enquiries officers are also examining the circumstances relating to a report to the Metropolitan Police Service, that Eileen had been missing from her home near Croydon.

Detective Inspector Lynn Wilczek, of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “We are working to establish Eileen’s movements between Sunday 6 November and Tuesday 8 November and have been checking CCTV and ANPR (automatic number plate recognition) cameras in a number of locations, between her home and where her car was eventually found.

“We are appealing to anyone who may have seen Eileen, or who thinks they may have seen her silver Nissan Micra to contact us. Please also check any dashcam you may have, which may hold important footage.”

Anyone with information should call the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 01622 798538, or email sciu.td@kent.pnn.police.uk, quoting reference RY/MS/121/22.
