They warned that children could quickly get into danger in the water while families are distracted by their phone screens. A spokesperson for the Coast Guard said: "Go to lifeguards or call 112/999 and ask for the coast guard. Get some Irish Coast Guard children’s waterproof wrist bands to write your mobile phone number on in case they get lost."
Additionally, four people were rescued by the Irish Coast Guard on Thursday night when they got into difficulty off the Dublin coast. They got trapped on a sandbank just off the Dublin Coast with a paddleboarder alerting the emergency services. The swimmers were stuck between Burrow Beach and Portmarnock Beach with a quickly rising tide.
They had been swimming to a sand bar but it had quickly started to disappear. The paddle boarder heroically rescued one of the people with the Coast Guard bringing the other three tourists to safety.
