A British tourist who vanished from his family holiday in Thailand has been found dead in a storm drain after falling in following a night out.

The 37-year-old Fraser Wright, from Swindon, was at a party hotspot in Phuket when he disappeared.

His family began a search for him when he didn’t return to the Seaview Hotel after leaving at 10pm on Tuesday.

His body was found by locals at roughly 9am Wednesday in a storm drain nearby.

CCTV footage captured the moment he peered into the drain before climbing over the one-metre-high barrier and falling in, local news reported.

Police say the footage from the early hours shows him on his own and no foul play is suspected.

According to local news outlet The Nation an autopsy carried out at Vachira Phuket Hospital didn’t identify any further wounds.

A UK Foreign Office spokesperson told the Daily Mail: “We are supporting the family of a British man who has died in Thailand and are in contact with the local authorities.”

The incident is the latest in a string of tragic cases involving Britons dying in Thailand.

In 2022, British tourist Marcus Evans was hacked to death with a sickle during a trip in Kanchanaburi.

The father-of-two, from Weston-super-Mare and his friend were attacked while drinking and playing music in the early hours of the morning.
