Two multistory buildings in the southern suburbs of Beirut were flattened in a missile strike on Tuesday. The strike, captured on video, showed aircraft flying over the buildings in the Ghobeiry neighborhood, south of the Lebanese capital. A missile hit one of the buildings, causing both to collapse rapidly.
According to Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency (NNA), there were at least three strikes on the Ghobeiry area that day. The initial reports of the strike came around 2:45 p.m. local time.
Prior to the strike, the Israel Defense Forces’ Arabic spokesperson issued an evacuation order for the buildings on social media. The spokesperson highlighted two buildings on a map, warning residents of their proximity to Hezbollah facilities that would be targeted in the future.
Hezbollah’s head of media relations was reportedly holding a news conference in the neighborhood at the time of the strike, as per NNA.
Explosives expert Trevor Ball identified the missiles used in the strike as Spice 2000 bomb guidance kits. These kits can be attached to unguided aerial bombs, transforming them into highly precise munitions, as explained by research coordinator Patrick Senft from Armament Research Services (ARES).
