Repercussions of commentator Jordi Castell's controversial remarks during the Miss Universe 2024 competition, held just over a month ago, have been significant. His words captured the attention of both the public and international media, and have now led to Castell's firing from Chilevisión.
Firing from Chilevisión
Beauty pageant expert Iván Mosquera confirmed on Instagram that Castell was dismissed from the TV channel.
"Justice has been served @fersitabel, you are not alone (...) After such unpleasant and inappropriate comments, Chilevisión took action and removed the 'host,'" Mosquera wrote.
The Miss Universe Organization also released a statement thanking Chilevisión for its "swift and professional response" to concerns raised during the event.
"We thank our broadcast partner, Chilevisión, for their prompt and professional response to the concerns raised during the live broadcast of the Miss Universe final gala on November 16," the statement reads.
"The behavior of Mr. Jordi Castell has not gone unnoticed. The Miss Universe Organization is committed to defending the honor and prestige of our candidates in alignment with our core values," the organization emphasized.
They also announced plans to pursue legal action to ensure justice and prevent similar behavior from happening again. He suggested during the broadcast that the Mexican candidate had sexual relations to ensure her passage to the final, instance to which the Chilean candidate, one of the favorites, failed to do.
