Current Miss Scotland Lucy Sophia Thomson has allegedly been caught on camera being drunkenly ejected from a rugby event in Edinburgh at the weekend.
The businesswoman, 24, from Dunfermline, is believed to be the woman in a video shared with the Record showing security staff escorting a blonde-haired lady from the Edinburgh City 7s event on Saturday. Separately allegations were made about a worker being assaulted and racially abused at the event.
In the clip, a woman dressed in a matching cream shorts-and-top set can be seen being led off of Peffermill Playing Fields in the capital. She can be seen stumbling and being physically lifted up by security staff, who struggle with her as they bring her back to her feet.
Ms Thomson is an entrepreneur who runs the Scottish Fashion Association, an events firm that aims to "address the challenges that the fashion communities face such as racism, sexism and gender inequality". The video was captured by a spectator at the event, which is described by organisers as "bringing an invitational rugby 7s competition with a party atmosphere to Scotland's capital".
The spectator, who asked not to be identified, told the Record that he recognised Ms Thomson from school earlier in the day. He had been aware of her status as the current Miss Scotland.
He said: "I recognised her from school. We had clocked her earlier in the day, we knew she was there.
"It was a case of her being too drunk and being escorted away and she had tried to fight back. She has taken everything including her Miss Scotland title out of her social media bio.
"But a lot of people saw it and filmed it – you couldn't not see it happening. She's meant to be an ambassador for Scotland. If this was just some other person nobody would care but in that context it's different."
A source linked to the event alleges that an incident took place between Thomson and staff. He added: "She was saying 'do you know who I am, I'm Miss Scotland, my dad has loads of money'."
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 9pm on Saturday, 17 June, 2023, we received a report of a disturbance and a hate crime at Peffermill Road in Edinburgh. Enquiries are ongoing."
The Record made multiple attempts to contact Thomson regarding the allegations. She did not respond to any of our requests for comment.
The holders of the licence for the Miss Scotland competition were contacted for comment and said they would send a statement but nothing has been received.
The organisers of the Edinburgh City 7s event were also contacted for comment.
Her business, the Scottish Fashion Association, posted a statement on Instagram saying: "SFA are aware of the incident on 17 June 2023. We are treating this matter exceptionally seriously, and will provide an update in due course."
MK Event Services, who provided security at the event on Saturday, said: "Given there is a live police investigation, it would be inappropriate to comment at this time."
Thomson was crowned Miss Scotland in a glitzy bash at Glasgow's Grand Central Hotel in July last year, seeing off hundreds of other women to take the title.
Alongside her work in fashion events she has also founded a charity, World of BRAvery, that supplies underwear and period products to vulnerable women. Charity regulator OSCR says the non-profit's accounts are overdue.
