The move takes the Misfits branch of the sport closer to WWE and further away from serious sanctioned fights, with the new venture having been criticised for the dangers it poses to amateur fighters.
However, there is an extensive list of rules which has been published by talkSPORT, which reads as follows:
Tag Team Boxing Rules (Part 1 – Teams)
1.1. A tag team fight shall consist of two teams of two boxers.
1.2. During the tag team fight one member of each team (the ‘fighter’) shall partake in the fight, subject to normal boxing rules.
1.3. The member of each team not partaking in the tag team fight (the ‘substitute’) shall stand on the apron outside the ropes of the ring and behind their team’s corner.
1.4. Each team shall be free to determine which member of the team shall be the fighter at the start of each round of the tag team fight.
1.5. The substitute may not enter the ring unless tagged by the Fighter in accordance with part 2 of the rules (see below).
1.6. The substitute shall at all times follow the instructions of the local commission and referee. This may mean, at times, standing down from the apron of the ring.
Tag Team Boxing Rules (Part 2 – Tagging)
2.1. A tag is commenced when a fighter raises and keeps either glove straight in the air during any period of inactivity – a pause in the action. A fighter cannot tag mid-action, while exchanging punches.
2.2. Once a fighter has raised their glove in the air they shall be free to proceed to their corner and touch gloves with the substitute at which point the fighter shall become the substitute and vice versa (a ‘tag’).
2.3. During a tag the opponent must stand in a neutral corner until told to proceed with the tag team fight by the referee. An opponent will not be permitted to tag their substitute during the tag of the other team.
2.4. Where the substitute does not wish to tag, the fighter must continue with the tag team fight.
2.5. A fighter must not attempt a tag during any period of engagement with the opponent. For the avoidance of doubt, a tag may only take place during a period of inactivity such as following a break-up of a clinch by the referee.
2.6. Where an opponent attempts to continue the tag team fight during a tag, their team will be disqualified.
2.7. There is no limit on the number of tags that may take place during a tag team fight.
2.8. A tag cannot take place during the referee’s count following a knockdown.
Tag Team Boxing Rules (Part 3 – Result)
3.1. A team wins the tag team fight in accordance with the boxing rules as though it was a regular boxing match.
3.2. For the avoidance of doubt…
Scorecards are calculated based on the performance of the boxers in the ring as though both team members are one person.
If one member of a team is knocked out or a technical knockout is ruled by the referee, the fight is over and the other team shall win.
