Miriam O'Callaghan pulls out of running to become new Late Late Show host

Miriam O'Callaghan has taken her name out of the running to become the new host of the Late Late Show.

The Prime Time presenter was a fierce favourite to be Ryan Tubridy's replacement but she won't be "throwing her hat into the ring" as she "loves Prime Time too much to leave it".

In a statement this afternoon, she said: "Although the speculation about me being one of the favourites to take over the Late Late Show is very flattering, that won’t be happening as I’m not throwing my hat in to the ring to be considered.

"I love what I do too much on Prime Time to leave it, and what we do in current affairs as a team really matters, and can actually change lives."

The 63-year-old added that she found a letter she wrote 14 years ago when the Late Late Show gig was last up for grabs. In it she wrote to management that she was withdrawing her name from the ring on that occasion too, as she "no longer wanted to be considered for the job if I had to leave Prime Time, and the position- fourteen years on- remains the exact same".

Miriam concluded her statement by wishing whoever does go for the new Late Late Show host the very best.

Miriam bowing out leaves Claire Byrne as the bookies' frontrunner for the gig, with Sarah McInerney and Angela Scanlon also fancied for the job.
