A miracle baby who was born at 24 weeks weighed the same as a tin of tomatoes.
His mother Kimberley Byers had a C-section to allow him to come into the world.
The 33-year-old gave birth to baby Rory in June and he was four months premature when he arrived.
She was overjoyed and said: "He arrived 15+1 weeks early!!! Weighing 600g which is a tin and a half of tomatoes!"
But she is now worried her maternity pay will end before her son leaves hospital.
Rory who has has aged seven months, weighed just 600 grams when he was born, but doctors still do not think he is fit to go home.
She and husband Glenn, 34, said that it has been "quite a journey" for Rory who has battled through a bowel infection, 14 blood transfusions and the antibiotic-resistant MRSA bug.
But Rory, who has a three-year-old brother called Zak, powered through much to his parents' joy.
Kimberly of St Neots, Cambridgeshire told WalesOnline : "He is such an inspiration – it's been quite a journey.
“We have watched him almost die several times.”
But Kimberly has voiced her pain at living 23 miles from her baby - who is still being treated in hospital.
The mum-of-two has to travel 23 miles every day to Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge, and with her maternity pay due to end in eight weeks, she is worried Rory will still be in hospital.
This leaves her with the dilemma of returning to work as a nanny or running out of money.
Her husband Glenn works as a sales manager.
Kimberly said: "How can I go back to work when my child is in hospital still?
"If I knew we had 52 weeks of paid then we could still cover our bills."
Kimberly's friends are also fundraising to help give her financial support while she is off work.
Nicola Jackson has launched a fundraising page at GoFundMe to help the couple cope with the shortfall in maternity payment.
On the page she said: "I have set up this page to try and help my dear friend Kimberly and her family.
"Baby Rory is still in hospital 6 months on with no idea when he will be home and its heartbreaking to see them go through this."
Kimberly writes on the fundraising page: "Tuesday 15th June was just like any other day until that evening when my waters broke. I couldnt believe it would be my waters because I was just 24+2 weeks pregnant.
"Off to the hospital, it was confirmed to be my waters. The next day I got blue lighted to our closest level 3 hospital (our local was just a level 1) I was told I would be here for the foreseeable until it was safe to deliver our baby.
"Well.... 3 days later I got sepsis and become very poorly, very quickly so they had to deliver to save my life.
"After lengthy conversations with all people involved, myself and Glenn, going against the doctors advice, our baby was delivered via classical section and me being put to sleep. I was just 24+6 weeks pregnant.
"He arrived 15+1 weeks early!!! Weighing 600g which is a tin and a half of tomatoes!"
