HYDERABAD: BJP on Friday staged a protest at the Jubilee Hills police station over the alleged gang rape of the 17-year-old girl. The BJP activists accused the city police of inaction in the case.
BJP supporters, led by former Khairatabad MLA Chintala Ramachandra Reddy, barged into the ground floor of the police station. They were heard raising loud slogans against the government and demanded that justice be done to the victim by immediately nabbing the accused.
Police who were taken aback had to rope in additional forces to control the situation. Deputy commissioner of police (West Zone) Joel Davis had to rush to the Jubilee Hills police station and policemen from surrounding police stations and zones were roped in to avoid further escalation. All the protestors were taken into custody by police before they were sent to various police stations.
"The accused in the rape case are still at large," Ramachandra Reddy said. The protestors alleged that since some of the suspects are kin of a few politicians and from affluent families, there is no action to date. The offence took place on May 28 and police received the complaint on May 31. Due to the protest at the police station which is on the busy Jubilee Hills road no 36, traffic was hit for some time in the evening.
