A federal district judge on Wednesday ordered Gov. Greg Abbott to respond to a Minnesota lawsuit seeking to extradite a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer accused of shooting a Venezuelan man in Minneapolis earlier this year before he is released from Texas custody.
The order comes a day after Minnesota leaders sued Abbott to force the extradition of 52-year-old Christian Castro, who faces four counts of second-degree assault and one count of falsely reporting a crime, having also been accused of lying about the circumstance leading up to the shooting.
