Minnesota state Rep. Leigh Finke, a Democrat and the first out transgender lawmaker in the state’s legislature, recently spoke out against gender-affirming care bans that target transgender individuals. Finke emphasized that such bans discriminate against trans people based solely on their identity.

Finke pointed out that by implementing restrictions on gender-affirming care, conservative lawmakers are interfering in private health matters. She stressed that gender-affirming care is a form of healthcare and should be treated as such, emphasizing that decisions regarding healthcare should be made in the privacy of one's home or in consultation with a healthcare provider, rather than being dictated by politicians or legal proceedings.
