A Minnesota man who stole his former girlfriend's phone and forced her to then perform sexual acts on him while he livestreamed is now facing serious time behind bars, according to a report.
Joseph Javonte Washington from Apple Valley, Minnesota, was found guilty of three counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, kidnapping, and second-degree assault on Wednesday, 5 Eyewitness News reported.
In 2020, Washington was inside a former girlfriend's house and picked up her cell phone. When she asked for it back, Washington punched her in the face and took her to a bathroom where he forced her to perform sexual acts on him while he livestreamed it from her device.
He then forced the woman into a vehicle at knifepoint and made her drive recklessly, threatening to stab her if she crashed, according to 5 Eyewitness News. When they did eventually crash in St. Paul, Washington ran away from the vehicle.
Police later found Washington hiding inside a dumpster, according to 5 Eyewitness News. They coaxed him out and he started running toward police, who "deployed Tasers and a K9 in an effort to stop him, and one officer shot the man, who was struck at least twice," police said in a statement at the time, according to Pioneer Press.
Washington's sentencing date has not yet been set.
