Education ministers are set to discuss the details of a plan to address sexual assault and harassment on university campuses.
Federal Education Minister Jason Clare will host an online meeting with his state and territory counterparts on Tuesday.
A working group on university governance has been looking at ways to address sexual assault and harassment on campuses.
One idea is to establish an independent national student ombudsman.
"Today education ministers will hear from the working group on what those measures may look like to strengthen the safety of students," Mr Clare told AAP.
A national student safety survey released last year found one in 12 students had been sexually harassed since starting university and one in 20 had been sexually assaulted.
But very few incidents were formally reported, largely because students felt help was not needed, it would be too hard to prove or believed others would think it was not serious enough.
