Ministers jetting off to wide range of snazzy locations for St Patrick's Day as full programme revealed

Government ministers are jetting off to a wide range of snazzy locations for St Patrick's Day this year.

The Taoiseach, Tanaiste, and other Ministers travel far and wide to promote Ireland on the day that landmarks across the world turn green.

This year will see a return to normality after high-profile events were moved to Zoom or postponed during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The last in-person celebration of the event was in 2020, when Leo Varadkar warned of the "calm before the storm".

A full list of each politician's designated country has been released by the Department of Foreign Affairs.

Leo Varadkar will make a stop in Colombia before heading to Chile, while, Green Party Leader Eamon Ryan will celebrate the occasion in the Big Apple.

Simon Coveney, Heather Humphreys, and Michael Noonan will be keeping things going at home for the day.

A spokesperson for the Department of Foreign Affairs said that these trips are incredibly important to promote Irish interests around the world.

They said: "St Patrick’s Day is the primary flagship for realising the ambition of the Government’s ‘Global Ireland’ programme to promote Ireland as a great place to live, visit, work, study, and invest, with an integrated, all of Government, Team Ireland approach.

"In this centenary year of the foundation of the State, and as Ireland marks the fiftieth anniversary of accession to the EEC, Ministers will underline Ireland’s commitment to the European Union, reinforce Ireland’s commitment to protecting the hard-won peace in Northern Ireland, and celebrate our heritage and renew our links with our global Diaspora and business leaders."
