A Home Office minister on Wednesday backed stripping rapist Met police officer David Carrick of his pension.
Immigration minister Robert Jenrick stressed this was a matter for the Mayor of London’s office.
But he made clear that the Government would support the move.
Mr Jenrick told Sky News: “The forfeiture of the pension is a matter for the Mayor of London.
“But we support his efforts to remove that pension, if that is indeed what he choose to do.
“This is one of the most egregious cases of police misconduct in the history of the Met, perhaps in the history of British policing.
“This disgusting individual should not benefit from his years serving in the Metropolitan Police.”
He stressed that there now needed to be a “very detailed investigation” into the Carrick case, and in particular “who might have known about this during his years of service”.
Carrick, 48, nicknamed “Bastard Dave” by colleagues, on Monday admitted 49 charges against 12 different women.
They included 24 counts of rape, false imprisonment, possession of an imitation firearm and coercive and controlling behaviour. Charges relating to a 13th victim were dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service.
He is due to be sentenced on February 6 and faces life imprisonment.
Even after nearly two decades of offending, he was allowed to remain a Met officer, on restricted duties, despite an allegation of rape against him made in July 2021 when the force was reeling from the Wayne Couzens scandal.
Met Police officer Couzens murdered Sarah Everard, 33, after kidnapping her as she walked home from a friend’s house in south London on 3 March 2021. He was jailed for life.
