Mini Countryman prototypes wearing full camouflage do not usually come with a pop-up tent on the roof. The one heading to the Rebelle Rally does, and it is about to spend 1,500 miles proving whether that gear is more than a costume.
Mini USA is entering the off-road navigation rally for the first time, fielding a new adventure-oriented variant built on the current Countryman that it plans to reveal globally just before the event. Driver Felicia Killman and navigator Erika Ferrer will pilot it across Nevada and California during the 2026 running.

Countryman Adventure Variant: What Is Confirmed
Mini has confirmed the vehicle exists, that it is based on the Countryman, and that it represents a more rugged, adventure-focused model variant rather than a simple appearance package. Official materials still stop short of calling it a full production model for the United States, and they do not outline its powertrain or firm US sales timing ahead of the reveal.
Three BMW Group engineers, James Wallace, Dennis Heaphy, and Eran Garma, led the build around off-road durability rather than outright speed. "For every bracket, every mount, every panel, we gave thought to what happens when it is in such rigorous conditions forty miles from pavement," Wallace said. He added that testing and adjusting were the only way to solve it.
The current Countryman lineup already offers a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder rated at 241 horsepower, with the JCW variant reaching 312 horsepower. Whether either engine carries over to this adventure build or something else entirely remains unconfirmed until the reveal.
Killman and Ferrer will navigate entirely by map and compass. GPS use is banned once the rally begins.
Off-Road Equipment Spotted On The Camouflaged Countryman
Reported hardware on the prototype includes a roof rack and cargo system from Thule, a skid plate from Heinlein Racing Development, and a set of Toyo Open Country all-terrain tires with visible suspension changes for extra ground clearance. DealerTire handled the tire and spare setup for the build.
Auxiliary lighting from Morimoto sits on the roof and grille for visibility during long, remote stages, while Pelican weatherproof cases keep mission-critical gear protected from dust and impacts. A GoPro camera is also mounted for documentation, and the roof-mounted accessory widely believed to be a pop-up tent has drawn the most attention online.
Ferrer, who navigates while Killman drives, downplayed the rig itself compared to the mental side of the challenge. "This rugged looking SUV is impressive, I will not pretend otherwise, but the training that kept me up at night was mastering navigation," she said. She described the discipline of trusting a compass bearing over instinct.
The 2026 Rebelle Rally runs within an official event window of October 7 through 17, concluding at California's Imperial Sand Dunes with the finish and awards. Past entrants like the Jeep Gladiator Mojave have used the event the same way Mini is now, as a public torture test before any showroom commitment. Mini's global reveal is expected in the days before the green flag drops.
